What You See in Christ Determines Who You Become
Many believers are trying to change their lives without first changing how they see themselves.
God never intended for us to live by looking at ourselves. He intended for us to look at Christ. The more you see Christ, the more you discover who you really are.
This is why Paul said:
“Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.” - 2 Corinthians 5:16
There was a time when people knew Jesus only as a man. They saw a carpenter’s son. They saw someone who got tired, hungry, and slept in a boat. They judged Him by what their eyes could see. But after His death and resurrection, everything changed. Jesus is no longer known merely as a man. He is now seen in the fullness of who He truly is, the Son of God, seated in glory, victorious over sin, death, and the grave.
Paul says if we no longer see Christ from a human point of view, then we should stop seeing ourselves that way too.
This is where many believers miss it.
They know Jesus is risen, powerful, and victorious, but they still see themselves as weak, ordinary, and bound by their limitations.
They see Christ one way and see themselves another way.
But the believer’s life was never designed to work like that.
The day you were born again, God joined your life to Christ.
“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Notice the scripture does not say you are trying to become new. It says you are new.
Many people are waiting to feel different before they believe what God has said. But God wants us to believe what He has said so that we can begin to live from that reality.
If you keep seeing yourself only as a human being struggling through life, you will live below what Christ paid for.
But when you begin to see yourself as God sees you, in Christ, accepted, righteous, loved, and filled with His Spirit, your life starts to change.
Not because you are pretending, not because you are speaking positive words only, but because you are agreeing with truth.
The Christian life is not about becoming someone else. It is about discovering who God has already made you in Christ. And that’s who you really are,
“For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.” - Colossians 3:3 (NLT)
This life of Christ is now your real life. Not the life defined by your past. Not the life defined by your mistakes. Not even the life defined by your natural abilities and limitations.
Your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
This is why Scripture says:
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory…” - 2 Corinthians 3:18
You become what you continually behold.
If all you see is your weakness, weakness will fill your thoughts.
If all you see is your failures, failure will shape your expectations.
But if you keep looking at Christ, His life begins to shape yours.
The more clearly you see Him, the more clearly you see yourself.
And that is one of the greatest secrets of spiritual growth:
Stop studying your weaknesses and start beholding Christ.
Because what you see in Christ determines who you become.
Confession/Affirmation
I fix my eyes on Christ.
I refuse to define myself by my past, my failures, or my limitations.
I am who God says I am.
As I behold Christ, I am transformed into His image.
I see myself through God’s eyes, and I walk in the reality of who I am in Him.
